Blogiversary 5
Monday, 08.23.10 @ 08:00AM
Late last night as I was scurrying to get this and that done and ready for Monday, I looked at the date and realized that Sunday marked five years since I began blogging. How did that date sneak up on me without my even noticing it? I'm supposed to be thinking ahead and planning these things!
For my first blogiversary, I posted a bunch of silly pictures of myself. If I tried that now, the post would be pages long!
For the second, I posted a timeline of milestones. In two years, there weren't many worth talking about.
For the third blogiversary, I posted the milestones of this blog's third year. Stuff I'd forgot about since then.
For the fourth, I took the easy way out and posted my ten favorite internet videos. That was a good idea, for purely personal reasons, because I still go there and enjoy them every once in a while.
This year, I'm a day late and unprepared to do anything special. The biggest change since last year is my new job at Neatorama. I am what you call "managing editor", which turns out to be a LOT of work that isn't apparent to the reader. At the same time, YesButNoButYes, where I had my first outside blog job, ceased publishing. ;-( I also curtailed my obligations at Geeks Are Sexy, although I still have posting privileges there (I think). Still, I am busier than ever, which means I haven't put the time in here at Miss Cellania that the site deserves. I appreciate those of you who stick around anyway, those who comment, and those who send me funny stuff -I couldn't do it without you!
Meanwhile, I recently lost half my ad revenue here due to a technical issue. That, after I upgraded my hosting plan and invested more money in order to comply with the ad specs. Things like that make me wonder sometimes if this site is really worth the time and effort it requires. I make money full time writing for other sites, so should I spend my precious little free time on this site, which doesn't make much money at all? Then again, this is my home on the 'net and my hobby. If it weren't for this site, I'd never have gotten those other jobs. But is it worth keeping now? It's something I will have to ponder on.
It's been a wonderful five years. When I was a little kid, I told everyone I wanted to grow up to be a writer. Looks like I have finally achieved that goal, in a roundabout way. People ask me two questions: first, they want to know if I really make money blogging. Yes, but not here on my personal blog. Then they want to know I got started in the business, and could they do it. The answer is, you have to do it out of love, not for
the goal of turning a profit. I worked on this blog as a hobby for years, trying to entertain people who might or might not come by or care. Then I wrote for others for no money at all -for a long time, just to be doing it. The money came later. And it's not big money, just enough to enable me to do this instead of punching a clock at some other job. Anyone who wants to do it the way I did has to put in the time first. Of course, if you have talent, that may make the way easier for you than it was for me!
Thanks to all of you who come by and check out Miss Cellania and Miss C Recommends. I love you all!

As long as you can find the time and energy to maintain this place, it'll be an essential part of my day - it's got a unique 'flavour' that the various group-blogs will never have, and that's what makes it special.
Your magic touch isn't diluted. :-)

I read your blog every day.

Thank you for this marvelous blog misscellania!!!
I am following it every day
I added it on my blog list
Anyway, Miss Cellania is a daily stop on my journey through the web universe and I look forward to many more years of sharing goodies with you.
Thank-you for my daily dose of entertaining stories and links!
You've entertained me for five years, not just here, but at other places, I've followed your stories of love, of family, of houses and the betrayals by builders.
I've laughed at jokes, and been sent to other places of interest, I've even learned things!
For all that, I thank you and wish you well, however you choose to proceed,
But I'd be very sad to see Miss Cellania's witty byline disappear from the internet.
Good luck, and thank you.
Indeed we do!!!!
Plus, my day would be empty without this blog. I might actually have to go to work or something. I didn't know what a blog was 'til I found Miss C. I feel like you all are part of my extended family(the hillbilly side). You are terrific & I hope you stick around for another five with a few five year options behind that. I personally enjoy your writing style a bunch! How selfish of me. Whatever you do, continue having fun!!!
Love to y'all!
Daily stop for me, in no particular order because I do it more than once. Glad you can make enough on the other sites so you can continue to keep me entertained!
But I regain consciousness and start again!
Keep on rockin', Miss C!
