Blogiversary 4
Monday, 08.24.09 @ 12:14PM
Life’s been pretty busy these past few months. I can’t believe that my blogiversary has come and gone and I didn’t even remember until the next day, and still didn’t have anything planned to post about it! To celebrate my first year of blogging, I posted some funny generated pictures of myself. For the second year, there was a timeline of the life of the site. Last year for blogiversary 3, I listed stuff that had happened online during that third year. This past year, the big things in life were offline. I met a guy. I fell in love. I started building more rooms onto the house. I got married. We have four kids living with us. Life is hectic.
I could write up the biggest posts of the past year, but I usually do that for New Years Eve. A timeline wouldn't be at all interesting, since the only big thing I’ve accomplished online is to land a job at Geeks Are Sexy. Oh, yeah, and I was on TV once. That’s about all. I managed to pass a million hits this past year, and then I passed two million just a few days ago and missed that milestone completely. Traffic is up, but my Technorati authority is way down, since few sites link here the way they used to. Or maybe it’s because folks don’t update their blogroll as often as they used to. But I can’t complain; I’ve got a job I love that allows me to spend time at home with my new man ...and our many children.
There is an idea I’ve been kicking around for a while that might be appropriate for this occasion. I made a list of the videos that I like so much I go back and watch over again, in some cases years after first posting them. You could call it my personal top ten.
These are in no particular order. I like them all! One thing they have in common is exceptionally good use of music to enhance the video, or else the music is good enough to make up for the video.
This is Charley
Where the Hell is Matt? 2008
Antarctica Time lapse: A Year on Ice
How to Move a 100-year-old Church
Crawfish and Cat
Dialog is here.
Keyboard Recital
Bach, Toccata and Fugue in D minor
No One Takes Your Freedom
The Mean Kitty Song
Jill and Kevin’s Wedding Entrance
Jill and Kevin are using the success of this video to raise money for a domestic violence prevention program.
I also want to say happy 4th blogiversary to several sites who premiered about the same time as this one, Neatorama (which really took off), Clueless in Carolina, Omega Mom, and Simply Left Behind. Also, since the ads here barely cover my hosting costs, a big thanks to the four sites that keep me in business by paying me to stay online: Neatorama, YesButNoButYes, Mental Floss, and Geeks Are Sexy.
