And so it begins...

You may or may not have read the few posts here about my new house and the strange upstairs portion that may or may not be haunted. Since my last update I've been pretty busy planning to put rooms in that big open space, and the process has begun. The building permit is in the door, and the contractor has his first check for building supplies. What you see here is the architect's conception of the new second floor.
After years of being debt-free, I signed my life away yesterday to finance the addition of a stairwell and four new rooms in the attic. When finished, we'll have four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The two new bedrooms, bathroom, and TV room upstairs will be for three little girls (two of mine and one of his) who are very close in age. Mr. Perfect's older son will be downstairs with us. We will also have room (using all possible creativity) for weekend visits from his three other daughters. The project is supposed to last all summer. Sometime in there, we'll get married. Moving everyone into one house before the upstairs is finished will be difficult but doable, and will save money over paying utility bills for two homes. I am hoping to sell my previous house to pay the loan, but there's no telling how long that will take.
Strangely, I'm not at all nervous about this. The contractor has a sterling reputation and a professional attitude plus he looks a lot like Abraham Lincoln. The bank had no qualms about the loan despite my occupation as a blogger, thanks to my many years of cultivating a great credit rating. No doubt you will see more posts here about construction and real estate adventures. Wish me luck!

As far as getting married again. Lady, you're on your own! J/K. My kids are mostly grown now and getting married a 2nd time has turned out to be a blessing. First the nightmare and then the dream? It seems that way but we get smarter as we get older (to compensate for what gravity does to our bodies). Don't spend a lot on the wedding, just save it for the honeymoon (or for your bills).
Miss Priss, of course the marriage is the bigger decision, but the house is where the money goes. And they are kind of related.
Tony, you betcha! We'll have a simple cheap wedding at home. I would just as soon get married at the courthouse, but the kids would never forgive me. And how many opportunities do they get to see their parents get married?
oldbear.
P.S. The addition might be a challenge too
plans look nice.
