Holocaust Hero Chiune Sugihara

Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugahara enabled thousands of Jewish refugees to flee Europe during World War II. For his efforts, he was imprisoned by the Soviets and fired from his job by the Japanese Foreign Ministry. Read about Sugihara in this article I wrote for mental_floss.

Where DID you get this story? It is really amazing. I lived in Germany for almost 30 years and with very few exceptions it was almost impossible to get anyone to talk about the war years. I read and was terribly moved by Thomas Keneallys Schindler's Arch back in the 70's in Ireland, but no one in Germany including my future wife who were born in the 50's knew anything about that man until Steven Spielberg made Schindler's List from this book. ' Chiune's List' is a story that needs to be told.
