Penguin Knighted

Colonel-in-chief of the Norwegian army Nils Olav has been knighted by the Norwegian King's Guard. Nils Olav is a King Penguin who lives at the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland, and is the mascot of the Norwegian army. He is promoted every time the Norwegian Guard visits Edinburgh to participate in the city's military tattoo. He is named after Nils Egelien, the Norwegian lieutenant (now major) who began the tradition, and Norway's King Olav. The penguin who received the honor yesterday is the third bird to fill the role of Nils Olav since 1972. (via Arbroath)
