« Normal Programming to Resume | Main | Name That Film »

OH NOOOOO!

My computer suffered a fatal seizure Saturday. I am ordering a new one to replace it, but I won't be online for a couple of days. Meanwhile, check out the archives, or any of the sites on my blogroll. Or check out the even more extensive blogroll at Miss C Recommends.

Normal programming will resume when possible. We regret any inconvenience.

Ack, sorry to hear about your computer! I've only recently started visiting your site (after finally following a link from Neatorama) but have already made it one of my daily "must-visits," so I'll miss the updates - best of luck in getting back up and running quickly!

Sorry to hear that. In a way, it's better. Malfunctioning computers can be maddening, requiring hours of frustrating attempts to fix them. At least when they finally stop working you no longer need to bother.

I once made the mistake of cleaning my laptop display with Windex. For months, it alternated between looking OK and then melting like a psychedelic light show. Finally, it kicked the bucket and I had to get the one I'm using now.

For future reference, you might want to check slickdeals.net before buying anything electronic. If there's a bargain out there, they've usually found it.

MS C, I know I am probably too late, but PLEASE, don't get another PC......get a Mac. You will thank me for all your remainging days!
Miss C,
Sorry to hear your PC pulled a George Carlin on you. I guess I'll have to plagiarize someone else until you get back.
Best of luck to you and your new system.

Jonco

Well, the sad news is it is a Mac. Very unusual for a Mac, but it seems to be a total catastrophic failure, as it will not boot from a system disc, or in target mode through a firewire connection. Of course, the vent ports on her Mac mini were totally clogged, and I suspect this may have led to the issue. She has been complaining about poor performance for many months now.

The good news is she is replacing it with another Mac mini and should be back soon.

Dust bunnies killed a Mac. Take note Mac fanboys :-)

Sorry to hear it died though. I'll warn a Mac Mini owner I know to check for dust bunnies on a regular basis.

Thanks a lot for letting everyone know I'm a lousy housekeeper.

He asked me if I ever vacuumed my CPU. Huh? I don't even own a vacuum cleaner, since I don't have carpets. And since the manual says you are supposed to keep a Mac Mini right side up, I never turned it over to see where the intake vents are.

Live and learn. While I was offline, I cleaned my keyboard. When I popped the keys off, I found a layer of cat hair underneath. Need to keep a towel over it while I'm not using it.
