Trick or Treat Recap

The kids looked pretty good this year.
I was a bit nervous about trick-or-treat in my new neighborhood. The old neighborhood never had any trick-or-treaters because it was dark and hilly and there are no sidewalks. My new neighborhood is the kind of place everyone for miles around goes to beg candy. I wrote about it at YesButNoButYes. Yes, there were crowds of kids. Probably several hundred. But I was armed with a laundry basket-sized bin full of cheap candy, and some chocolate stashed away for kids I knew.I set up a table and several chairs on the porch. I was ready.
There was a constant stream up the sidewalk for two hours, which is the regulated time for trick-or-treat. Then we had stragglers for another hour. But the kids helped out (it didn't take them long to get as much candy as they wanted from other houses) and it was fun! I took tons of pictures, especially of the cute littlest ones.
And when it was over, we still had a little bit of candy left! My neighbor -the one who warned me about how many kids would be there- came over and said there were twice as many last year! She figures the "low turnout" was because of a home football game. That's fine; I don't think I could have handled twice as many. A good time was had by all. Now the kids are watching horror movies and eating chili. Even they know when they've had enough candy.
Happy Halloween!
