10 Trillion Dollars

The US national debt recently passed the ten trillion dollar mark. That's ten million millions! Wellington Grey created this slideshow to show us what ten trillion dollars means.

Aw, c'mon now, love: surely you can afford some credit for The Most Ethical Congress in History... ;)

Would rather we get back to fun trivia and away from uninformed biased political statement. George cannot and did not make laws. George cannot and did not author spending bills. The Democratically controlled congress can though. Further, current analysis says that a TRUTHFUL accounting of Obama's spending verses revenue plan will be 281 Billion in the hole at the end of four years.

So.... can we get back to the fun stuff please? If we want biased news and unfair comment we can look up the New York Times

True, and I could also take the recommendations that I have made of the site elsewhere as well. The fun stuff is fun and entertaining, the political stuff is often unfair and biased. Neither of us will have a live altering experience if I delete my bookmarks and don't return, but would rather my comments spawn a few seconds of "hmmm, perhaps he is right."

Hello, Grey (the author of said comic) here,

First, thanks for the link, Miss Cellania. As for the comments:

*George cannot and did not make laws. George cannot and did not author spending bills. The Democratically controlled congress can though*

I just want to point out that the Congress, while nearly universally loathed, has been controlled by the republicans for 6 out of the last 8 years.

Is it far for me to lay ALL the blame at W's feet? No. But *most* of the blame, yes, I think so. The congress writes up the budget, and the president approves it. W's approved every bit of spending and every budget that went across his desk. Clinton got us a balanced budget by using his veto power, causing lots of problems for the congress, and actually making them fix things.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

(Thanks for the link, but if you're reader's don't like, you may want to stay away from me in the future : )

No, Bill Clinton Didn't Balance the Budget

While George Bush is responsible for a great deal of growth in the National Debt, he is not responsible for the whole of it.

When Clinton left office the National Debt was almost $6 trillion dollars.

The fault is with all of us as Americans. Instead of electing people who are responsible with our money, we elect the people who offer to give us the most free stuff.

Unfortunately, stuff isn't free. It has to be paid for. But we have been putting it all on the National Credit Card with no thought of how we are going to pay for it.

There are still no good candidates. They are continuing on the same path, in fact they are picking up speed. Each Presidential Candidate is out doing himself by promising us more and more stuff.

An honest candidate would freeze tax rates at their current levels and slash 50% of the Federal Budget, no matter how badly it hurt.
