A few notes: 1. I found a new provider for the LOLcat version of this site. Let me know what you think, and whether I should use this or keep the old one in the sidebar. 2. I need some ideas for what to write about at mental_floss, since I’m running a bit dry. You can see the kind of thing I’m looking for here. 3. In addition to the links lists at Miss C Recommends, I am trying some new ideas. I already have the video of the day and the biography of the day, and now I’m starting the full-length feature of the day. 4. Be sure to go vote for your favorite blogs in the 2007 Weblog Awards. Please vote for Simply Left Behind (Actor 212) in the Ecosystem Awards for Best of the Top 5001 - 6750 Blogs. Because he wants it so bad.

Please, Hammer, don’t hurt her! Olivia Munn reads the teleprompter as she sees it.
Movember (the month formally known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year. At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. You have the remainder of the month to grow and groom your moustache and along the way raise as much money and awareness about male health issues, in particular prostate cancer as possible. Hazardous waste disposal in 1947. You can imagine what happens when 20,000 pounds of sodium hits a lake. Or watch the video.

YOUNG PILOT
(Thanks, Rich!)
A young and foolish pilot wanted to sound cool on the aviation frequencies.
This was his first time approaching a field during the nighttime, and instead of making any official requests to the tower, he said, “Guess who?”
The controller switched the field lights off and replied, “Guess where!”

WikiPediaVision is a visualization of edits to the English Wikipedia, almost the same time as they happen. These are not all the edits, only those that will fit into the time frame and are not registered users (whose IP number is protected), but this gives you an idea of the constant global nature of Wikipedia editing. And it's addicting.
GASOLINE
(via Big Shot Bob in Texas)
On my first day working at the gas station, I watched a senior co-worker measure the level of gasoline in the underground tanks by lowering a giant measuring stick down into them.
"What would happen if I threw a lit match into the hole?" I joked.
"It would go out," he replied very matter of factly.
"Really?" I asked, surprised to hear that. "Is there a lack of oxygen down there or some safety device that would extinguish it before the fumes ignited?"
"No," my co-worker continued. "The force from the explosion would blow out the match."
Rollerblade Slalom
Xu Xinyu of China won first place in the the freestyle rollerblading slalom at the JeonJu Slalom in Korea last month. I didn’t find her age officially listed, but a commenter at YouTube said she is eleven years old. This video is her winning performance. (via Dark Roasted Blend)
Thought for today: How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?
